Meg Johnson
Founder of We Are S.A.M.
During her appointment as a United States Probation Officer, Meg worked on sex offender and human trafficking cases for nearly 20 years. She serves as the Director of Prevention and Education at Safehouse of Seminole. [⤢]
Karen Lane
Since her retirement as the CFO of Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, Karen has dedicated her time and talents to benefiting others, including co-founding SAFE in Central Florida and volunteering with iDignity. [⤢]
Diane Checchio
Subject Matter Expert
Diane has been involved in human trafficking related prosecution and community in Central Florida for decades, working with both the Orange County State Attorney’s Office and the Florida Attorney General’s Office of Statewide Prosecution. [⤢]
Misa Mills
Misa is the Manager of Community Involvement for Seminole County Schools, where she spearheads initiatives to foster collaboration between the school district and the local community. She is a passionate anti-human trafficking advocate, speaking on awareness and prevention. [⤢]

Lahkoyah serves as the Anti-Trafficking Career and Vocational Specialist for One More Child. As a survivor of grooming, sexual abuse and complex trauma, she helps others find and navigate the pathway to hope. [⤢]

After a 40+ year career as an executive for Siemens Energy, Greg is passionate about helping those in the fight against human trafficking in the Central Florida area, having co-founded SAFE in Central Florida. [⤢]
Darrell Lane
Since his retirement from 30 years as a software engineer, Darrell has dedicated his time and talents to benefiting others, including co-founding SAFE in Central Florida and volunteering with iDignity. [⤢]

Maegan Heller is a licensed, EMDR-trained clinician and Victim Services Coordinator with FLITE Center. She currently co-chairs the Victim Services Subcommittee of the Space Coast Human Trafficking Task Force. [⤢]

Kathy Barbay
After 30 years teaching in the school system, Kathy began volunteering with 121Hope, a ministry of Northland Church that addresses human trafficking. Kathy’s experience includes providing direct survivor care in retreat settings. [⤢]
Savannah Ruemler
Savannah Ruemler is a business owner and a mom of three boys who attend a private school in Central Florida. She has a passion for helping others and educating students on human trafficking. [⤢]
Meg launched her career in 1994 by working for the Criminal Justice Liaison in the Office of the Governor for the State of Arkansas. She then received an appointment to the position of United States Probation Officer in the District of Vermont and completed her federal career in Little Rock, Arkansas. During her service, Meg worked on sex offender cases with the FBI and Homeland Security, including child pornography and human trafficking. She later relocated to Florida and served as the Ministry Leader for 121Hope, Northland Church’s response to human trafficking, where she worked directly with survivors as a certified victim advocate. Meg’s missionary work spans across the United States, Uganda, and Costa Rica, focusing on Human Rights causes. Currently, she serves as the Director of Prevention and Education at Safehouse of Seminole.
Kathy Barbay, a dedicated educator, spent over 30 years teaching in the school system. For the last 19 years, she made a significant impact at Lake Hyland Preparatory School in Orlando. During her tenure, Kathy not only taught but also sponsored and coached Future Problem Solving for students, dedicating 14 years to this program. Her commitment extended beyond the classroom as she served on the Florida State Board of Directors for 12 years, allowing her to connect with students from around the world. Upon retirement, Kathy continued her mission to make a difference. She began volunteering with 121Hope, a ministry of Northland Church that addresses human trafficking. Kathy’s experience includes providing direct survivor care in retreat settings. In 2023, she joined the We Are S.A.M. team, furthering her advocacy against human trafficking. Kathy’s heart lies in educating young people about this critical issue, with the hope of keeping them safe in our world.
Maegan Heller is a licensed, EMDR-trained clinician and Victim Services Coordinator with FLITE Center. She obtained a Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of Central Florida in 2014 and has spent the last 10 years treating and advocating for children and adults with histories of complex trauma. She holds active certifications in the treatment of trauma, anxiety, and anger management and has been a member of the Florida Crisis Response Team since 2017. She maintains a clinical caseload while educating hundreds of professionals and community members about trauma, sexual exploitation, and abuse prevention, including teaching at two Central Florida jails. She currently co-chairs the Victim Services Subcommittee of the Space Coast Human Trafficking Task Force.
Emmy Award-winning Film Producer, Speaker, and Enneagram Coach Kasey Brennan employs her passion for storytelling to help others direct their own narratives, explore their own motivations, and craft the life story they want to tell. Credits from her decade as producer, production manager, and various other roles include ESPN documentary special Tim Tebow: Everything In Between, award winners Struggle and Triumph and Esperanza, The Prize, Mi Casa Hogar, and feature film Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius. She’s had the privilege to partner on projects with Disney, Billabong, Levis, Campus Crusade, and more. Kasey’s commitment to creating work that affects change has most recently led to the upcoming documentary Never Again, a compelling look at the rise in anti-Semitism and the ability of love to triumph over hate. As the mother of a child with special needs, she shares a particular affinity with other caretakers pursuing joy in heavy circumstances. With her coaching clients, she lends a master storyteller’s perspective as they examine the roots of their life stories, helping them to identify key plot points, heal old and new relationship conflicts, and dive into the study of themselves as central character. Through the lens of the Enneagram, Kasey becomes a partner to our own fully human, fully beautiful documentaries, the ones we are writing by minutes and moments every irreplaceable day.
Savannah Ruemler has more than 16 years of experience working as a Corporate Branch Operations Trainer for the Indiana University Credit Union and now owns a business with her husband. She is a mom of three boys who attend a private school in Central Florida. Savannah has a passion for helping others and educating students on human trafficking.
Lahkoyah Powell was born in Tampa Fl. She currently resides in the beautiful city of Brooksville with her three children and one granddaughter. She attended Hillsborough High School where she graduated with honors. While at Hillsborough High School she was enrolled in the Dual Enrollment program in the pursuit of educational advancement. After High School she worked in the Banking and Insurance industries. Having overcome her own journey with grooming, sexual abuse and complex trauma, through her faith, she survived. Finding her calling with One More Child in the Anti-Trafficking program as a Peer Coach in the One More Child Safe Home, she transitioned to a Peer Mentor and currently serves as the Anti-Trafficking Career and Vocational Specialist. In this role she is living out her dream of helping survivors find and navigate the pathway to hope. She is currently pursuing a BA in Psychology with South University where she hopes to aid in the Anti-Trafficking movement in a greater capacity.
After a 40+ year career as an executive for Siemens Energy and now in the “rewirement” phase of his life, Greg strives to balance his time between serving on leadership teams for multiple US and international ministries, consulting and spending time with his family. On the ministries front, he is a board member for a girl’s home in Guatemala (Prince of Peace), his local church/pre-school, a ministry bringing water and food sustainability to farmers in Malawi (African Windmill Project) and now SAFE in Central Florida. He is also consulting for multiple global companies focused on the transformation of the electric sector from large central generation stations to renewable and distributed energy sources. Greg also enjoys speaking to both secular and ministry groups on the importance of balance in your life and “rewiring” instead of retiring.
Greg and his wife, Pam, have been married for over 37 years, currently live in the Orlando area and they have a daughter who is pursuing a graduate degree having recently returned from being a full-time missionary in Guatemala.
Karen Lane retired in 2018 from her position as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy after over 30 years in the Energy Industry with Siemens Gamesa, Siemens Energy, and Westinghouse Electric.
Karen has served on various Boards over the years. She was a Director on the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) Board of Directors and a member of their executive committee from May 2016 to April 2018. She has also served on the Board of the Orlando Science Center, Financial Executives International and Institute of Internal Auditors.
Since retiring, Karen and her husband Darrell, have focused on expanding their effort at their local church, spending more time with family and traveling. Karen continues her mentoring of women through her associations from her work environment, church and personal contacts. In addition, Karen and her husband volunteer for IDignity and are now Co-Founders of SAFE in Central Florida.
Karen and Darrell have been married for over 35 years and have resided in the Central Florida area for over 30 years. They have two adult married children with five grandchildren.
A co-founder of SAFE in Central Florida, Darrell Lane, retired in 2018 from 30 years as a software engineer with over 20 years with Orlando Health. Darrell’s purpose has always been to use his skills in technology in industries that were focused on helping others. He found that purpose fulfilled at Orlando Health where he used his technical skills to support clinicians so they could focus on patient care.
Together with Karen Lane, Darrell has expanded his volunteering at church and nonprofits, been married over 35 years with two adult married children and five grandchildren. Additionally he still keeps up with some of his other hobbies, photography and scuba diving.
James is a creative who has worked in media and advertising in Orlando, Florida for 24 years. He has a passion for helping non-profits tell their story and help to amplify their message. A programmer and designer by origin, and a Creative Director, Producer, and Project Manager by experience – James has a degree in the digital arts, and deep experience in digital-based design, web-design and development – as well as all types of digital advertising.
He also frequently works offline, creating tangible things such as full brand identities (logo, print materials, etc), ride films, ride concepts, live corporate presentations, government simulations, and much more – for clients big and small.
In his free time James enjoys spending time with his son, traveling, keeping his pulse on Internet trends and culture, charitable volunteering, and launching creative personal projects.
M. Diane Checchio graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Central Florida and has a Juris Doctorate Degree from Stetson University College of Law. Ms. Checchio spent two years with the Orange County State Attorney’s Office as an Assistant State Attorney successfully prosecuting misdemeanor, juvenile, sex crimes, and felony cases. In 2001, she co-founded the Law Offices of Checchio & Stone, P.A., where she practiced criminal, civil, and family law for ten years. Ms. Checchio joined the Florida Attorney General’s Office of Statewide Prosecution in 2011, where for 6 years she prosecuted cybercrimes, sex crimes, drug trafficking, and white-collar crimes; however, her main focus was prosecuting human trafficking cases. In 2015, Ms. Checchio received the Human Trafficking Prosecutor of the Year award from Florida’s Statewide Council on Human Trafficking.
Uneeke Armani is an accomplished event operations and marketing professional. She spent the last five years of her career working with Florida Citrus Sports as the events and operations coordinator and venue manager. Her journey with the organization began humbly in 2018 as a volunteer, demonstrating her commitment and passion for the industry. Through her exceptional work ethic and demonstrated leadership, she ascended to the role of Coordinator in 2021, where she has since played an integral part in the successful execution of numerous high-profile events.
Specializing in event operations, Uneeke’s responsibilities included the meticulous coordination of flagship events such as the Florida Cup Series, the esteemed Florida Blue Florida Classic Battle of the Bands, and two prominent college bowl games. Additionally, she assumed a pivotal role in the day-to-day venue management of the Varsity Club at Camping World Stadium, ensuring seamless operations and exceptional guest experiences.
Renowned for her unwavering positivity and unparalleled determination, Uneeke is a catalyst for productivity in the workplace, inspiring her colleagues to strive for excellence. Her peers affectionately referred to her as “Miss Make-it-happen,” a testament to her proactive approach and ability to overcome challenges with grace and efficiency.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Uneeke is deeply engaged in her community, serving as a valued executive member of the board of directors for the Beyond Four Foundation. Additionally, she lends her expertise to four non-profit organizations, each dedicated to empowering youth and fostering positive change in various capacities. Through her multifaceted contributions, Uneeke continues to make a meaningful impact both within companies and throughout the community at large.
Misa Mills is the Manager of Community Involvement for Seminole County Schools, where she spearheads initiatives to foster collaboration between the school district and the local community.
